A thug who grabbed hold of a man and threw him down stairs outside a pub, causing him to lose consciousness, has been jailed.
Johanthon Morton, 29, of Blyth, appeared at Durham Crown Court following the attack in August 2022.
The court was told the victim was enjoying his stag do with his friends and family in Osbournes pub, just off Elvet Bridge in Durham when an argument broke out involving Morton.
Morton grabbed hold of the victim and flung him down the stairs where he landed on the concrete floor and became instantly unconscious.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle and placed in an induced coma.
Some of the witnesses said the victim "did not hit a single step on the way down".
Following an appeal issued on social media, Morton presented himself at a police station to be interviewed.
He was later charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm.
Morton appeared at Durham Crown Court on Friday, July 5 and was handed a 20-month prison sentence.
He was also issued a restraining order and must pay a victim surcharge.

Investigating officer DC Lauren Howe said: “This has been a long and complex investigation, but I am pleased it has now concluded so that the victim can now move on with his life, relax and continue his recovery.
“This incident highlights just how easily a split-second decision can change someone’s life.”
The victim added: “I would like to say thank you to Lauren for her hard work and dedication in the investigation and for keeping us updated every step along the way.”
