A NORTH Yorkshire primary school has been recognised as one of the country’s best in ‘The Oscars of education’.
Cambrai Primary School, in Catterick, has been named a Primary School of the Year Silver Award winner in the 2024 Pearson National Teaching Awards.
Head teacher, Laura Robinson, said: “We’re overjoyed to be recognised in the National Teaching Awards. As teachers, this is like winning an Oscar – we are beyond thrilled.
“Cambrai’s success is a tribute to our amazing staff team who constantly go over and above the call of duty for our pupils, and to the incredible community we’re a part of.”
Winning a silver award means Cambrai Primary School – which is part of the Lingfield Education Trust – is also shortlisted for the coveted gold award of Primary School of the Year, the winner of which will be announced at a ceremony later this year.
Author Michael Morpurgo, former Children’s Laureate and President of the Teaching Awards Trust, says: “The work and devotion of all of those who play a role in educating young people is phenomenal.
“Not only do they play a vital role in shaping minds inside the classroom, often they continue to encourage, support, motivate and inspire beyond. That’s why it is important for us to take a moment on this National Thank a Teacher Day to recognise their efforts.
“I am also thrilled to be able to congratulate this year’s Silver Award winners and recognise the amazing contributions and commitment they have shown is shaping the lives of the next generation - thank you!”
Nick Blackburn, chief executive of Lingfield Education Trust, said: “This has been a fantastic year for Cambrai Primary, coming so soon after our first ever Ofsted inspection, which found us to be an Outstanding school.
“I’d like to thank everyone for their dedication and commitment to creating a truly extraordinary learning environment.”
