Organisers have heralded a County Durham music festival filled with live performances, markets and more a huge success despite some less-than-ideal weather.

A week filled with singing, laughter and live music - that was the overwhelmingly positive verdict of the organisers who pulled together the Durham Brass Festival across the county from July 5-13.

Loud Noises, Hector Gannet with NuSound, NASUWT Riverside Band, Smoove & Turrell, and Brassed On were just some of the acts that took to the stage for sell-out performances across the festival.

Cllr Amanda Hopgood, Leader of festival-organiser Durham County Council and North East Combined Authority Cabinet member for culture, creative, tourism and sport, said: "What a week it’s been. We’ve had some worried faces when studying weather forecasts for some of our outdoor events but, with a few exceptions, the sun has shone and the show has very definitely gone on.

"We’d like to thank everyone who has been part of Brass. From our excellent line-up of bands to everyone who has come out to see them play; the venues and locations that have hosted them, the people who have provided them with accommodation and, last but by no means least, our teams who do all the organising behind the scenes and the volunteers who help our bands get where they need to be.

"It is such a pleasure to put on free events not just in Durham City, but in our towns and villages across the county as well, and to see people of all ages and backgrounds enjoying themselves so much."

Free entertainment was also taking place in the form of the Streets of Brass performances across Durham City, Party in the Park at the city’s Wharton Park, and Big and Little Brass Bashes at ten towns and villages across the county.

The festival’s final closing performance saw a DJ set from Smoove & Turrell at Durham Town Hall, and Loud Noises performing at Durham Miners’ Gala.

Pictures showed musical revellers across the county playing trumpets and trombones, dressed in bright and fun colours.

The talented acts were seen smiling at the crowds as spectators took photos of the acts which were dotted around the county.
