A woman who tried to drill a hole in her partner’s head, hit him with a pan lid and stabbed him in the side with a fork has been jailed.

Leanne Harvey left her long-term partner with a suspected punctured lung and covered in blood as a result of the two violent attacks she launched on him.

Teesside Crown Court heard how the 47-year-old’s behaviour was a ‘quantum leap’ from her previous offending.

Peter Sabiston, prosecuting, said Harvey attacked her partner on two occasions almost a year apart while their relationship was being ravaged by drugs and alcohol.

“There are no pictures of medical evidence to establish the degree of force, persistence or malice, it is noteworthy that she tried to drill the hole to the back of his head,” he said.

“They had been drinking and she wanted to start an argument. She then stabbed his hand with a fish fork to the side of the body and tried to drill his head.

“There was a significant amount of bleeding and he was taken to hospital.”

Dealing with the second incident, Mr Sabiston said it happened at around 6am after they had both consumed alcohol.

“There was an argument, he got out of bed but she followed. The argument continued, she picked up a glass pan lid and struck him to the head with sufficient force to smash the glass.

“He started to make some toast and turned his back to her, as he turned, he could not see that he taken a fish fork to stab him to the right side of the chest.

“He could see he was bleeding and new the injury was near to his heart and feared for the worst.”

Harvey, of Elder Court, Middlesbrough, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm from November 21 last year and assault occasioning actual bodily harm from December 6 last year.

Jonathan Walker, mitigating, said the couple had struggled with drugs and alcohol but his client accepts that is no excuse for her behaviour.

“She would like, through the court, to give her heartfelt apology to her partner,” he added.

Judge Advocate Tom Mitchell sentenced Harvey to a total of three years and 11 months for the violent attacks.

“What you are in court for today to be sentenced for is a quantum leap in your offending. You have never done anything like this before,” he said.

“I accept that you are heartily sorry for that you have done.”

The judge added: “You have stabbed your partner with a fish fork to the hand and then you have attacked him to the back of the head with a power drill.”
