A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after he crashed a car into trees early this morning. 

Just after 2 am this morning (Wednesday, July 10), a silver Audi left the motorway and crashed into trees as it travelled eastwards along the A689, towards Hartlepool. 

 The police have said that a 17-year-old boy suffered a broken right arm and an injury to his knee.

He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and he was bailed pending further enquiries. 

The force are now asking anyone who may have dashcam footage, or any extra information, to get in touch and help with their investigations. 

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "We're appealing for information and any relevant dash cam footage following a single-vehicle collision on the A689.

"The collision happened at around 2.15am this morning (Wednesday, 10th July) and involved a silver Audi A4 as it travelled east along the A689 towards Hartlepool.

"It was reported that the vehicle left the motorway and collided with some trees.

"Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number 129873."
