Drone pilots are being warned of a flying ban in Durham city while the Big Meeting takes place this weekend.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to attend the 138th Durham Miners’ Gala on Saturday.

Traditional brass bands and banners being paraded through the streets offers the opportunity for fantastic aerial photography.

But people are being warned to leave their drones at home as a temporary restriction is being put in place.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “A temporary Civil Aviation Authority restriction will be in place across Durham City to prevent all drones (excluding emergency services) from flying in the area between 5am and 11pm.”

Officers will be in the city throughout the day and will be on hand to offer help and advice should you need it.

The spokesperson added: “If you need assistance, or see something that doesn’t look right, please don’t hesitate to approach them.

“That’s what they’re there for.

“Also be aware that road closures are in place from 4am on Saturday morning, so plan your journeys accordingly.
