Roads in Durham will be closed from 4am on Saturday with around 200,000 people expected on the streets for the annual Miners’ Gala.

Coaches are bringing in crowds of people from towns and villages from across the North East and beyond from 8.30am.

The party often starts on board as excitement builds for the Big Meeting ensuring there is already a carnival atmosphere by the time passengers reach the city's historic cobbled streets.

Coach drop-off and pick-ups are at Framwelgate Waterside (postcode DH1 5TA).

From Framwelgate Waterside you can walk up to the city centre to join the fun.
