Haughton Academy in Darlington has cancelled the yearly Year 9 and 10 celebrations in light of the death of one of their pupils.
An email was sent around to all parents at the school alerting them to the event cancellation.
Scarlett Vickers, 14, died on Friday at her home on Geneva Road.
Two adults have been charged with her murder and they will appear at Teesside Crown Court on August 5.
The message to parents reads: "In light of the tragic death of one of our pupils over the weekend, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel Y9 and 10 celebration evening on Thursday.
"The awards will now take place during school hours.
"This unfortunately means parents/carers will not be able to attend."
Simon Vickers and Sarah Hall made a short appearance in Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court after the 14-year-old Darlington teenager died on Friday night.

District Judge Steven Hood heard in Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court how the teenager suffered a fatal single stab wound which resulted in her death.
Vickers, 48, and 44-year-old Hall, of Geneva Road, Darlington, both appeared in court wearing prison-issued grey tracksuits and spoke only to confirm their address and date of birth.
District Judge Hood remanded the pair in custody to appear before Teesside Crown Court on August 5 for a plea and case management hearing.
