A County Durham leisure centre partially reopened on Monday as Durham County Council confirmed a full reopening of its facilities will happen later this month.
The Louisa Centre in Stanley reopened its swimming pool on Monday following refurbishment works that started in 2023, with the rest of the centre's new facilities set to follow on July 22.
The centre's refurbishments and maintenance work improved and increased the facilities offered according to the council.
Changes made include a larger children's area with interactive features, three new exercise studios, and a new 'Move Hub' packed with the newest power-assisted equipment for those who need support or are recovering from an illness.

Durham County Council’s cabinet member for resources, investment, and assets, Cllr. James Rowlandson, said: "We are delighted to announce that The Louisa Centre will begin reopening from next week with new and updated facilities for visitors to enjoy.
"The works in Stanley are part of our Leisure Transformation Programme through which we are currently updating our leisure offer to modernise it and ensure it is accessible for all ages and abilities."
Cllr Rowlandson added: "The programme aims to provide a diverse leisure offer for our communities across the county to help more people become and stay active, supporting our residents to live long and independent lives.
"We are looking forward to welcoming people back next week to see the improved offer at The Louisa Centre."
Future developments will also see half the sports hall transformed, becoming the county's first TAG Active obstacle course, and a new 'clip and climb' wall.
A new cafe, ‘Thrive Kitchen’, will also provide healthier food options.
From Monday, Aqualearn lessons will once again be available at the pool, with the centre's complete programme slated to begin on July 22.
