Two people from Darlington will appear in court this morning charged with murdering a 14-year-old girl.
The teenager was pronounced dead at a property on Geneva Road in the town at about 11pm on Friday (July 5).
Police and CSI remained at the property into the weekend and Simon Vickers and Sarah Hall, both of Geneva Road, were yesterday charged with murder.
They will appear before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning.
It is expected the case will be sent straight to the Crown Court to be dealt with.
The name of the 14-year-old who died has not yet been confirmed by police.
Detective Superintendent Craig Rudd, Senior Investigating Officer, said on Sunday (July 7): “This incident has resulted in the tragic death of a young girl, and our thoughts are with her family and friends.
“I would like to thank the local community for their patience and co-operation while investigative work is still being carried out at the scene, and to reassure residents that we believe this to be an isolated incident.”
Local residents reacted with horror and shock at the girl’s death.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, described her as a “canny lass”.
They said: "It’s absolutely awful. I just read about it.
"We used to see her going up and down the street but we never talked.
"The other week our son and her were catching a loose dog on Yarm Road and he said she was a canny lass."
