Hundreds of people turned up today to enjoy the annual Proms at the Park in Darlington.

The slopes leading down to South Park's bandstand were absolutely packed with families on blankets and camping chairs.

The event began at 3pm and the conductor began by telling the crowd that there were even more people there than last year.

Families were shading themselves under Union Jack umbrellas to protect themselves from the sun.

There were catering vans for refreshments, from cold drinks and ice creams to bottles of wine.

The yearly event raises funds for the Army Benevolent Fund and it looked like donations were pouring in as people bought flags to wave.

Attendees enjoyed music from an impressive bagpipe band to the classic brass orchestra on the bandstand.

Everyone was having a great time as the music washed over them in the afternoon sunshine.
