Two people have been charged with murder following the death of a 14-year-old girl in Darlington, police have confirmed. 

Police and paramedics were called to an address in Geneva Road shortly after 11pm on Friday, July 5.

A Durham Police said in a statement: "Sadly, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Simon Vickers and Sarah Hall, both of Geneva Road, Darlington, have been charged with murder and will appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court tomorrow."

Detective Superintendent Craig Rudd, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “This incident has resulted in the tragic death of a young girl, and our thoughts are with her family and friends.

“I would like to thank the local community for their patience and co-operation while investigative work is still being carried out at the scene, and to reassure residents that we believe this to be an isolated incident.”

Emergency services were called to Geneva Road, Darlington, at 10.45pm on Friday. Several police vehicles converged on the scene along with a paramedic, doctor and ambulance personal.

 Paramedics treated the girl at the scene, but she died shortly after their arrival.

A spokesman for Durham Police said: “We were called to an address in Geneva Road, Darlington, shortly after 11pm yesterday (Friday, July 5).

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 22.46 on Friday, July 5 to an incident at a private address on Geneva Road in Darlington. 

"We sent five resources in total including a doctor and a specialist paramedic.  Police also attended the scene."
