Carnival performers, musicians, dance troupes, floats and even a giant Pride flag ensured that this year’s South Tyneside Festival parade was one of the most spectacular yet.
Hundreds of people turned up - despite some bad weather - to watch more than 50 organisations taking part in the annual event on Saturday (July 6) all showcasing their own interpretation of this year’s theme – celebration.
For the first time, the festival featured the very first Pride in South Tyneside, with members of the LGBTQ+ community joining in, as part of the month-long Pride celebrations across the borough.
The parade, organised by South Tyneside Council in conjunction with arts organisation The Cultural Spring, brings together months of work with various schools and community groups.

Among the important events highlighted in the parade was the 50 year anniversary of the formation of the borough of South Tyneside and the 30th anniversary of The Customs House.
The parate started outside South Shields Town Hall and mad its way through the town, ending up at Bents Park where a full programme of entertainment took place.
The Bents Park attractions included a silent disco powered by electric cycles, an aerial performance, a live performance by acclaimed boogie band, King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys and more.
