Residents on Geneva Road in Darlington have been reacting with shock at the number of police on their street last night and this morning.

Durham Police have stated that two people have been arrested following the death of the woman at a property on the street last night (Friday, July 5).

Police and forensics remain at the scene of incident where investigations continue.

One resident on the street described the road as "absolutely swarming" with emergency services last night.

Another, who wished to remain anonymous, described coming home from a night shift at work and seeing a cordon sealing off a large portion of the street.

They said: "We don't know what has happened. We came home after working the night and there were police everywhere.

"It's very worrying."

Another resident on the street had checked their security camera but had not managed to see anything helpful for the police.

They said: "We just don't know what could have happened for there to be so many police here.

"It must be bad."

A spokesman for Durham Police said: "We were called to an address in Geneva Road, Darlington, shortly after 11pm yesterday (Friday, July 5).

"Paramedics also attended, but sadly a female died shortly after their arrival.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding her death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.
