Police were called to an "illegal rave" in an abandoned North East waterpark last night. 

A "small group" of people descended on Wet 'n' Wild waterpark, in North Shields, yesterday night. 

A video posted to social media, shows a group in the abandoned waterpark buildings dancing whilst someone plays music using DJ decks, whilst police officers entered the building. 

Three young men, aged  23, 32 and 33, were interviewed by officers in connection with the disturbance, but have been released with no further action taken. 

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 9pm yesterday [Wednesday], we responded to a report of a disturbance at a disused premises on Rotary Way in North Shields.

"Officers attended and a small number of people had gathered to listen to music.

"Three men - aged 23, 32, and 33 - were interviewed in connection with the disturbance but have since been released with no further action to be taken."

The Wet 'n' Wild Park, in Tyneside, closed down in 2020, and has sat empty ever since after the Covid pandemic put a stop to renovation and reopening plans. 

It had been the UK's largest indoor waterpark when opened in July 1993.

Last week it emerged had been sold to a developer, though plans for the site have yet to be publicised. 

A year ago, police with tasers caught a group of urban explorers inside the closed-down waterpark in North Shields.

Officers were called to the former leisure centre site on May 3, 2023, after reports of suspicious activity inside the building.
