Enquiries are underway after a young girl was hit by a car in Middlesbrough this week.

On Tuesday morning (July 2), an 11-year-old girl was hit by a silver Vauxhall car when crossing Cawood Drive, in Acklam.

She was stuck on her left side, causing her to fall into the hood of the car, and then onto the floor.

Now, police are searching for anyone who may have information, after the driver left the scene without leaving his details.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "An 11-year-old pedestrian was crossing Cawood Drive, close to the junction of Glendale Road, in Acklam at around 8.40am on Tuesday 2 July.

"A silver Vauxhall Insignia drove around the corner from Glendale Road onto Cawood Drive and collided with her.

"The girl was struck to the left side causing her to fall on to the bonnet and then to the ground.

"While the driver of the vehicle spoke to the girl to ask if she was okay, he failed to remain at the scene to provide details and instead drove away."
