I love a pork pie.

So when I was offered the chance to taste test the pork pie Rishi Sunak would be tucking into, I was unable to resist.

Apparently, Mr Sunak has established an election night tradition of scoffing a pie from Kitsons butchers on Northallerton High Street.

His pork pie of choice, we're told, is a creation filled with a layer of blue Stilton and a special Yorkshire pickle.

Mr Sunak's pie is super-sized, but mine was a more modest offering.

So what did I make of this savoury delicacy?

First of all, it looked and smelled good. The baked brown pastry was pleasing to the eye, and the aroma was instantly mouthwatering.

And so to the taste test.

The immediate experience was the agreeable crunch of the flaky pastry. Absolutely delicious.

The meat was soft, oozing juiciness and extremely tasty.

The blue cheese, which could easily be lost in such a powerful pie, was strong and tangy and the whole ensemble was complemented perfectly by the sweet pickle topping.

Overall this was a first-rate pork pie of the highest order. I'd rate it a taste sensation.

This was clearly a premium pastry product and I can well understand why Mr Sunak opts for this superior savoury snack.
