Matt Vickers has been voted into the new Stockton West constituency - making him the only Conservative MP on Teesside after a Labour landslide.
Mr Vickers held his seat with 20,372 votes, with Labour's Joe Dancey coming in second with 18,233.
Meanwhile, Reform’s Steve Matthews received 6,833 votes, with Anna-Maria Toms, Green, achieving 1,477 and Nigel Frederick Boddy, from the Liberal Democrats, coming out with 1203.
This was the first General Election for the newly formed Stockton West following a parliamentary boundary review last year.
The constituency is largely made up of the former Stockton South, which has regularly changed hands but was most recently headed by Mr Vickers, who secured a majority in 2019.
It has been predominantly held by the Tories over the last decade, with the party winning every election since 2010 apart from a surprise win in 2017 by Paul Williams, with just 888 votes deciding the outcome.
'I am over the moon'
The election of Mr Vickers is a huge win for the Conservatives, who have had a brutal night across Teesside with a Labour landslide turning the region a sea of red.
He told The Northern Echo: "I am over the moon. I feel a huge honour and privilege to have been re-elected. I am delighted by all the things we have achieved in the last few years.
"Whether that be the diagnostic hospital, whether it be the vocational training centre that is going to be built, or whether it be that new freeport business park that is going to deliver over 4,500 jobs for local people.
"I am delighted to be able to get back on with that work. Hugely privileged but also feel the responsibility and the weight that we have got to get on and keep delivering for local people."
