A Tees Valley school has been named Independent Prep School of the Year at the 2024 Tes Schools Awards.

Yarm Prep School won the accolade at the event fondly named the 'Oscars of education'.

Part of an elite panel of judges, school leaders and educational experts chose the winning schools and teachers who showcase best education practices across 21 award categories and celebrate UK-wide education milestone achievements across varying sectors.

Mr Bill Sawyer, head of Yarm Prep, said: "Winning this prestigious national award is an incredible honour for our school and our collaborative initiatives.

"The dedication of our pupils and teachers at Yarm, along with the support from our partner schools and organisations, has made this achievement possible. I am exceptionally proud of everyone involved."

Yarm Prep secured victory amidst a competitive shortlist of eight other esteemed independent preparatory schools, one coveted award of the many announced at an awards ceremony on June 21, at London's Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane.

Educational authorities praised Yarm Prep, especially for their thriving partnerships programme that has positively impacted more than 3500 young individuals in the North East, this academic year.

Headmaster, Dr Huw Williams said: “Yarm Prep is excelling and significantly enhancing the lives of young people both within Yarm and beyond.

"The recognition of our outstanding staff and ambitious pupils through this award is truly well-earned.”

A judge for the award, Simon Larter Evans said: "The approach taken at Yarm Prep is a standout in their sector, and what they’re doing is really making a difference."
