Among the most recommended was "The Old Well Inn, Barnard Castle", mentioned by both David Makepeace and Dave Wade, and "The Crown Inn Manfield" was put forward by both Linda Wheadon and Richard Brown.
Claire O'Connor praised the "Crown And Crossed Swords, Shotley Bridge," noting the availability of "hand-pulled ales in the cosy bar in winter, fabulous beer garden in the summer, dogs welcome in both."

Adding to this, some establishments weighed in themselves, with "The Ship Inn at Middlestone" and "Cross Keys Gainford" sharing how they cater to their four-legged patrons.
"Our dog beer always gets great reviews! The dogs that stumble out of the cross keys are always jolly" said Cross Keys Gainford.
Lee Hornsby recommended the Half Moon in Kirk Merrington.
Other popular spots included "The Aviator Gin Bar The Aviator Kitchen" presented by Louise Buckley as "very dog friendly even have a menu for the dogs"; "The Grey Horse, Consett" by Caroline Brewster and "The Manor House Hotel and Spa, West Auckland" by Ruth Wright.
