The appointment of Durham's Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) has been approved by a panel.

Graham Hall was proposed for the position by PCC Joy Allen with Durham Police and Crime panel unanimously backing her decision.

On July 1, Ms Allen presented her plan for Mr Hall's role at a confirmation hearing.

She said: "I am delighted the Police and Crime Panel unanimously approved my decision and I look forward to welcoming Mr Hall to the OPCC team.

"Graham's vast experience of policing and community safety will prove an invaluable support to me.

"He will provide an insight that is second to none as we work to make County Durham and Darlington safer for everyone.

"As our responsibilities as PCCs grow and evolve, Mr Hall's support will provide additional expertise and capacity to reach and engage with our residents."

The Panel endorsed Mr Hall's appointment, noting his law enforcement experience and community safety work.

Mr Hall's appointment runs until May 2028 replacing former Deputy PCC Nigel Bryson OBE.

His responsibilities will include reinforcing local, regional and national efforts to improve policing while confronting drug and alcohol-related crimes and antisocial behaviours.
