The Northern Echo's live trackers will bring you every twist and turn as the election results are declared tonight, with Labour on course for a huge majority.

Polls have closed with the exit poll predicting a landslide Labour majority with 410 seats.

Meanwhile the Tories will be reduced to 131 seats.

It marks a dramatic turnaround since the 2019 general election, when Boris Johnson won the Tories a healthy 80-seat majority and Jeremy Corbyn led Labour to its worst result since 1935.

Results in our region will be announced soon with the first expected shortly after 11pm. The Northern Echo will bring you results, news and analysis from across the region.

Our live election trackers below will tell the story of the night as it unfolds.

See how seats change hands

Our graphic below will show how the make up of the North East changes overnight.

Before the election in our region, the Conservatives held 12 seats, and Labour held 18.

Due to boundary changes the region now has 28 seats instead of 30. Those two seats lost belonged to Labour, as shown on the graphic.

As the night goes on and seats may begin to change hands, the lines will diverge to show where seats have swapped between parties.
