A clear-up operation following a major fire in a wood pellet warehouse at a North East port is continuing.

Emergency services were called to the Tyne Dock in South Tyneside on Wednesday afternoon after a major blaze at Tyne Grain Company.

It is understood the fire took hold of supplies of wood pellets used in biomass energy production.

More than 40 firefighters tackled the flames and people in the area were advised to keep their doors and windows closed.
