Plans for 48 new homes on agricultural land on the outskirts of Hartlepool which faced more than 50 objections have been withdrawn.
Proposals were submitted to Hartlepool Borough Council planning department towards the end of 2022 to develop the field off Palace Row in Hart.
The application from DPP UK stated the development would have provided a mix of “well-designed” two, three, four and five-bedroom properties.
The site opposite Glebe Farm aimed to support local housing needs and proposals included four two-bedroom bungalows, 10 three-bed houses, 26 four-bed homes and eight five-bed sites.
The scheme would have contained a mix of units for rent, discount market sale and outright sale.
However, a council decision notice has now confirmed the application has been withdrawn at the request of the applicant.
This comes after more than 50 objections were submitted by residents since the proposals were first lodged.
Worries included “horrendous” levels of traffic leading to safety concerns for residents, a loss of green space, damage to wildlife habitats, a lack of amenities and the proposals having a “detrimental impact” on the village and its character.
Hartlepool Rural Neighbourhood Plan Working Group and Hart Parish Council also raised similar concerns over the proposals, adding the land is only allocated for 30 homes in the Local Plan and the additional properties would mean a loss of public open space.

A statement in support of the application said the proposals would have provided a “high-quality residential development which integrates with the character of Hart village”.
It added they would have also made financial contributions to various areas to mitigate against the impacts of the proposed development.
