Beamish Museum welcomes around 800,000 visitors every year - so it is no surprise that it takes a team of over 350 paid staff and 400 volunteers to keep the attraction ticking over. 

The most popular paid attraction in the North East is searching for a fresh crop of people to join its team at we move into 2024. 

With seasonal vacancies listed on their website, you could be doing everything from frying chips on a period-appropriate coal-fired range, to making decisions about the future of the museum on their board of trustees.

1. Costume Maker

The job advert for this role says: "We are looking to recruit a Costume Maker to ensure that staff, volunteers or anyone involved in activity are provided with high quality, historically accurate and practical clothing to enable them to undertake their role. 

"To assist with the daily costume/laundry tasks including sewing and repair duties, as well as sourcing clothing / fabrics for production.  The Costume Maker will also ensure a warm welcome is given to visitors to the Team."

2. Project Lead - Beamish Creative & Cultural Skills Hub

The job advert for this role says: "Beamish museum is excited to be part of the Durham County wide Into the Light programme with its ambition to drive long-lasting growth in County Durham through creative collaboration. We are looking for a Project Lead to lead the Creative and Cultural Skills Hub, who will be collaborative, adaptable and have genuine enthusiasm for the cultural sector and its role in community development.

"The brand new Creative and Cultural Skills Hub hosted by Beamish aims to boost the skills, capacity and resilience of County Durham’s cultural sector. Working through five dynamic strands - Apprenticeships, Paid Placements, Mentoring, a new Level 3 qualification, and Volunteering - the Hub will make connections and create opportunities across the Into the Light Programme and with creative and cultural organisations throughout the County.
