A man has been charged with murder following an alleged "stabbing" in Stockton.

Adam Mackintosh, 28, is set to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Friday following a reported incident at Wrensfield Road on Wednesday evening.

Emergency services were called to the street around 6:40pm after a 23-year-old man suffered serious injuries. He was taken to hospital, where he died a short time later.

Mackintosh, of Coral Grove in Thornaby, was arrested shortly after on suspicion of murder and was held in police custody on Thursday.

As previously reported, a huge cordon was erected across Stainmore Close following the alleged incident on Wednesday.

Pictures showed the large-scale emergency response, with white-suited investigators captured taking photographs and using evidence markers at the scene.

A separate cordon was also set up on Coral Grove, which is roughly three miles away from Stainmore Close, and later confirmed to be linked by Cleveland Police.

Residents of the close-knit Stockton estate told The Northern Echo how it was a "massive shock" to witness 999 crews flood the street.

Officers will remain in the area over the coming days as enquiries continue.
