A popular County Durham pub is set to reopen next month promising to "step up a gear" with a new menu and outdoor entertainment.

Crinnions of Lanchester, a family-owned business active in the town since 1959, announced its closure in May 2023 citing a rise in costs, wages and utilities.

Mark Flood, a chef who previously worked at the pub, successfully took over with his business partner Phil Cooper recently and told The Northern Echo that a long-awaited reopening date is set for July 12.

"When Crinnions shut really we were interested straight away. In the last six months, it's progressed from there", Mr Flood said praising the "absolutely superb" previous owners.

Mr Flood is hoping to make the revamped venue a go-to spot for all kinds of visitors.

"It's going to be a bar-restaurant", he said, "We're going to have our lunch specials on to appease all sorts of clientele.

"On a night time, we're going to step up a gear and we're going to bring a bit more Bistro style food in alongside your classics."

He said customers could expect "twists" on classic pub grub and special dining deals like "Tomahawk Tuesday" - offering a one kilo tomahawk steak served with two sauces and sides.

A wide selection of drinks will be on offer, including draught beers and guest cask ales, an array of bottled beverages, non-alcoholic beers and lagers, cocktails and a new wine list with a broad variety of options to cater for all tastes and budgets.

The renovated establishment is set to continue with live music, both indoors and outdoors.

It also features a new children’s climbing frame aimed at making the garden more family-friendly.

Mr Flood sees Crinnions as an essential part of the community fabric: "We want to make sure everybody's got a place in what is pretty much the heart of the community.

"We are so excited and we were looking forward to meeting everyone in Lanchester and getting to know them personally.

"We want to extend our family to the people of Lanchester."
