The Bay Horse in Hurworth, near Darlington has been named as the best in the North East at the National Pub and Bar Awards.
There was some stiff competition from pubs in Northumberland and Tyneside.
The Bay Horse has managed to build a solid reputation for good food and quality service.
One of the judges described how it had drink choices from cocktails to local ales.
Tristan O’Hana, editor of Pub & Bar magazine said: “A charming coaching inn, The Bay Horse has been beautifully refurbished, incorporating a modern décor while managing to retain its characteristic charm.
"When visiting, you’re greeted upon entry with a roaring open fire and a friendly team behind the bar. The pub’s drinks choice offers everything from local ales in traditional dimpled pint pots, to classic cocktails and a varied wine list to match any palate.
"This pub has quietly and steadily built a reputation for its food quality and service since it opened. Right now, it’s one of the finest food offers in the area and a deserving winner of the 2024 North East title.”
