A 12-year-old boy has been seriously injured after a car knocked him off an electric scooter before leaving the scene of the crash. 

Police are appealing for information on the road collision in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough,  at 5.40pm on Sunday (June 23).

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "The 12-year-old was riding on a black electronic scooter on Kinnersley Street, heading towards Maltby Street in North Ormesby.

"A black VW Touareg travelling along Maltby Street towards Macbean Street collided with the scooter at the junction.

"The driver of the Tourareg did not remain at the scene of the collision and officers are seeking information on this vehicle and its driver. The registration number is SP57 NCF."

The spokesperson added: "The child was taken to hospital with a fracture to his skull, an open wound to his head, a bleed on the brain, a fractured collar bone, fractured right knee, fractured left leg and lacerations to his right leg."

Officers are urging the driver of the vehicle to come forward, and asking witnesses to the collision, or anyone with CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage to contact them on 101, quoting reference SE24118032.
