Repair work on the wall of a main road into Darlington has been "delayed".

A tree fell on part of the stone wall near South Park in January and badly damaged it.

Other sections of the wall are also undergoing refurbishment due to the wear and tear of the bricks over time.

Darlington Borough Council and National Highways say that it is the responsibility of Homes by Esh to repair the structure.

Pictures from the site show that there are piles of bricks ready to be used in repairs but they haven't been moved for months.

Homes by Esh say they have been asked by the council to carry out the restoration work but have been delayed due to complications.

They will try to carry it out in line with traffic management permissions.

Deputy Managing Director of Homes by Esh, Colin Willetts, said: “This section of the wall is currently undergoing refurbishment and the bricks have been removed as they have been damaged through wear and tear over time.

"The refurbishment work has been delayed due to some complications uncovered as part of this process, however a new plan has since been agreed with Darlington Council and this section is anticipated to be finished and restored in August.”
