A road in Hartlepool has reopened after significant structural damage to a barber shop made it unsafe to pass last night.

Stockton Road, in Hartlepool, was shut down by officers from Cleveland Police after reports that the roof of Dubai Barbers slid off yesterday evening (Monday, June 24).

But the road reopened late last night, after emergency services worked to make the building safe for pedestrians and motorists to pass.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Stockton Road in Hartlepool is now passable with care after the earlier full closure from Westbourne Road down to the roundabout at the junction of Stockton Road and York Road.

"This was due to concerns regarding structural damage at Dubai barbers.

"Thank you to all motorists and residents affected for their patience while police and partners dealt with the situation."

Yesterday evening, the force said: "Motorists in Hartlepool are being advised of a road closure which will remain in place for some time until a building is made safe.

"The road is closed from Westbourne Road down to the roundabout at the junction of Stockton Road and York Road.

"This is due to structural damage at the Dubai barbers and the closure is in place to reduce any risk to passing pedestrians or motorists."
