A man has been charged with attempted murder after a suspected stabbing left another man critically injured.
Officers were called to reports of a disturbance in Ely Terrace, Stanley, on Saturday, June 22, shortly after 10.20pm.
The victim, who is in his 50s, was taken to hospital for treatment and remains in a critical but stable condition.
Kenneth Walton, 30, of Windsor Street, Trimdon Station, was arrested in connection with the incident a short time later and taken into custody to be interviewed.
He was subsequently charged with attempted murder, possession of a bladed article and common assault and appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court this morning. No pleas were entered.
He was remanded into custody and will appear at Durham Crown Court on Monday, July 22.

A cordon was put in place for several hours following the incident while an investigation was carried out.
A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: "Officers would like to thank the community for their patience while they were in attendance.
"It is believed this was an isolated incident and we would like to reassure the public there is no risk to the wider community."
