Durham and Middlesbrough are set to be hotter than Barcelona today as the North East welcomes a summer heatwave.
Reaching highs of 26°C on Monday, the North East hot spots are predicted to be warmer than the Spanish city.
The temperature in both Durham and Middlesbrough will be the same as in Palma, Mallorca offering a sizzling start to the week.
The forecast for the rest of the week according to The Met Office is as follows:
Darlington
Monday's sunny morning is expected to turn cloudy by lunchtime with a high of 25°C and lows of 17°C.
Tuesday saw sunny intervals, becoming cloudy by lunchtime.
Temperatures reached 24°C during the day and dropped to 15°C at night.
Wednesday will be overcast, turning sunny by lunchtime with temperatures between 20°C and 15°C.
Thursday is set to be cloudy, changing to sunny intervals in the afternoon, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 12°C.
Friday will be sunny, turning cloudy by lunchtime and temperatures of 19°C and 11°C.

Durham
On Monday, Durham will be sunny, turning cloudy by early evening with temperatures between 26°C and 16°C.
Tuesday will see cloudy weather changing to sunny intervals in the afternoon. Temperatures will range from 24°C to 14°C.
On Wednesday, it will be overcast, changing to sunny intervals in the afternoon, with temperatures between 21°C and 15°C.
On Thursday, it will be cloudy, changing to sunny intervals by lunchtime with temperatures of 22°C and 11°C.
Friday will be sunny with a high of 19°C and lows of 10°C.
Middlesbrough
Sunny weather is forecast on Monday, which will turn cloudy by the early evening with a high of 26°C and lows of 20°C.
On Tuesday, it will be cloudy, changing to sunny intervals by the late morning. Temperatures will range between 23°C and 15°C.
Wednesday will be overcast, changing to sunny intervals by lunchtime, with a high of 20°C and lows of 16°C.
On Thursday it will be cloudy with sunny intervals after lunchtime. High of 22°C, low of 13°C.
While on Friday the weather will be sunny changing to partly cloudy by night time. High of 19°C, low of 12°C.
Richmond
Richmond will see sunny weather on Monday, changing to a cloudy sky by lunchtime, with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 11°C.
The rest of the week forecasts sunny weather, changing to cloudy skies by afternoon and temperatures ranging from 22°C to 9°C.
