A man who was left fighting for his life after an explosion at his home in Middlesbrough is now in a critical but stable condition.
The 57-year-old suffered serious burns after a horrific blast tore through a semi-detached home on Kirkland Walk, in Park End.
The man was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, where he remained in a critical condition on Wednesday.
In an update on Friday, Cleveland Police has now confirmed to The Northern Echo that the man’s condition is critical but stable.
The Park End community was rocked this week after the sudden explosion on Tuesday sent plumes of debris into the air.
Devastating pictures taken from the aftermath showed how the explosion had spewed up tiles, insulation, and other debris across nearby homes and the street.
Residents told how the man was rescued from the rubble when heroic members of the public darted towards the danger to help - including Kayfee Hameed, who carried the man out.
Park End and Beckfield Councillors confirmed on Wednesday that plans were being put together for a structural assessment of the building and home nextdoor.

Councillors said the probe would look at whether the building could be saved, once police investigations had fully concluded.
Twelve homes in total were affected in total - although the reason behind the explosion has not yet been confirmed as police continue to try and "establish the full circumstances."
Anyone who saw the explosion, or who has any CCTV, Doorbell, or phone footage of the incident, is asked to contact police via 101, quoting reference number 113998.
