A Hartlepool bar has been left furious after one of its England flags was snatched from the front of the venue in broad daylight.

Rosie’s, at Hartlepool Marina, decided to embrace Euro football fever this year by decorating the popular waterfront bar with flags galore.

But what bosses didn’t expect is to catch a mysterious figure on CCTV taking down the Saint George's Cross in a seeming bid to literally take football home.

Footage uploaded to Facebook shows the 'flag snatcher' - who was wearing shorts, a body warmer, and a cap - taking down the flag before walking away.

The video has since been shared widely across social media prompting many tongue in cheek comments from the public, including one person who said: "Clearly wasn’t impressed with England’s performance last night."

Another person added: "I'd have said a Scotland fan, but he only took the one."

Adam Gaines, from Rosie’s, said the bar, which broadcast the England v Denmark clash on its 20 big screens - put up the flags to “help create a good atmosphere” for punters.

He told The Northern Echo: “They really add to the England match atmosphere. The flag has been up from when the Euro 2024 began.

“It’s annoying that someone thinks it’s ok to tear down and steal a flag in broad daylight. Local children, football fans and tourists have had their pictures taken with the decorations."
