A motorcyclist from Middlesbrough was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a horror crash in North Yorkshire. 

Officers were called to the A170 near Sinnington - between Kirbymoorside and Pickering - after a crash involving a gold E-Class Mercedes and a grey and orange KTM motorcycle. 

The rider of the motorcycle, a 51-year-old man from Middlesbrough, was raced to hospital with serious injuries - with his condition currently unknown. 

The two occupants in the Mercedes suffered minor injuries.

The collision happened at around 2.30pm, with the road being closed while ambulance crews attended to casualties and police investigations were carried out. 

The road reopened at around 9.30pm.

A statement from the force said: "A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a collision on the A170 on Thursday 20 June. The collision happened at around 2.30pm near Sinnington between Kirbymoorside and Pickering.

"It involved a gold, E-Class Mercedes and a grey and orange KTM motorcycle both of which were travelling towards Pickering.

"The rider of the motorcycle a 51-year-old man from Middlesbrough, was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries. The two occupants in the Mercedes suffered minor injuries.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision, saw either vehicles prior to it happening or has any dashcam footage is asked to get in touch if they have not already spoken to us.
