Hundreds of school pupils were given a glimpse into science and technology education through a free programme led by industry leaders including Hitachi.

Ten schools from Teesside, including Yarm Preparatory School, were involved in the two-day programme put together by The North East STEM (which stands for science, technology, engineering and maths) Foundation (NESF).

Radiation detection and climate change were among the subjects of activities, including welding, radio transmission, slime challenges and circuit boards.

Leaders including Esh Group and Hitachi were a part of the day - with hopes the day's activities will inspire the next generation of STEM workers.

Michelle Henderson, Director of Foundation Development, said: “The Primary STEM Day aligns with our ongoing mission to promote STEM education and ensure that every child can explore and excel in these critical fields.

“By collaborating with Yarm School and our industry partners, we are not only sparking curiosity and innovation in these students but also future-proofing our local industries and economy."
