A main street in Richmond was closed as emergency services dealt with an ongoing incident.

Residents had been advised to avoid the area around Hurgill Road.

The incident began before 2pm and involved a teenager in distress.

The person involved is now receiving help and Hurgill Road is now open as usual.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "The incident in Richmond has now been brought to a safe conclusion.

"At just before 2pm we responded to a concern for safety incident which involved a teenager who was in distress.

"The person is now receiving the appropriate help.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding whilst we dealt with the incident.

"Hurgill Road is now open again as usual."
