Police have provided an update after the driver of a car crashed into the front window and wall of a McDonald's restaurant before leaving the scene "at speed" in County Durham early this morning.
The vehicle, believed to be a Subaru Forester, left a trail of destruction after leaving the A167 road and crashing into the McDonald's restaurant at the Thinford roundabout, near Ferryhill, at about 1am on Friday (June 14).
The Subaru crashed into a metal boundary fence, before ploughing through a seating area, uprooting tables and chairs and crashing into the front window and wall.
The window was smashed and part of the wall was damaged in the collision.
It is not known if anyone in the Subaru was hurt in the crash. The restaurant is open 24/7 and workers were there at the time - but on the other side of the building.
No one was in the restaurant at the time.
A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police received reports of a collision at the McDonald's restaurant on Thinford Roundabout this morning (June 14) at around 1am.
"A grey Subaru Forester is believed to have collided with tables outside of the restaurant, causing damage to both the building and the car, and then left at speed in the direction of Ferryhill.
"Inquiries are ongoing."
Anyone with information should contact Durham Police on 101.
