On Father's Day, hundreds of local families will participate in the 2024 Ali Brownlee 5k and 2k at Riverside Stadium.

The events, taking place on Sunday, June 16, offer a touching opportunity for people to run alongside their Dad, in honour of their Dad, or in remembrance of him.

The races will be held at the iconic Riverside Stadium to honour the late broadcaster Alastair Brownlee who commentated on Middlesbrough FC for over 30 years.

Organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All in collaboration with Everyone Active and Middlesbrough Council, the event welcomes participants of all fitness levels.

The 5k starts at 10.15am outside the stadium, leading runners through Windward Way, Middlesbrough College, and Cleveland Street, then past the Transporter Bridge and along Vulcan Street before a grand finish back at the stadium.

The event is known for its fundraising for local causes.

Runners have been urged to fundraise for a selected charity, or for one of the events' partner charities, the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and the Great North Air Ambulance.

Councillor Philippa Storey, Middlesbrough deputy mayor and executive member for culture and education, said: "The Ali Brownlee 5k has established itself as a firm fixture on the region’s running calendar, and I’m delighted to see it going from strength to strength."

She added that participants range from experienced runners, charity fundraisers to those seeking a run through the historic town centre.

Tristan Batley-Kyle, operations director at Run For All, also expressed his excitement, hoping for a memorable race day experience for every participant.

Alongside the 5k, there will be the Ali Brownlee 2k, open to children aged three and over, with those aged between three and eight required to be accompanied by an adult.

All participants, regardless of their ability, are encouraged to wheel, walk, jog and run.

The day aims to be about more than just running with a focus on celebrating the city's diverse communities.

Following completion of the races, participants will receive a bespoke medal to cherish their achievement at the stadium.

The event is supported by Middlesbrough Council, Everyone Active, BBC Tees, Coopah, Shokz, Up and Running, High 5, Arla Protein and Marathon Photos Live.
