Dog walkers and people with children are being urged to be vigilant after an animal snare was found in a County Durham park.

Warning signs have been posted after the device was found in South Moor Park in Stanley on Wednesday.

Belinda Snow, Durham County Council’s neighbourhood warden manager, said: “Following a report of an animal snare being found in South Moor Park, our wardens attended the park and arranged for its safe removal.

“They also carried out a search of the surrounding area and although they found no other items of concern, they have posted a warning notice asking members of the public to be vigilant, particularly those walking dogs or accompanied by children.”
