A huge plot of land next to Newton Aycliffe quarry has come onto the market for £3,000,000.

There are 37 acres up for sale in total, all of which were used in the former mineral extraction and landfill site at Aycliffe Quarry.

There is existing planning permission for leisure-related development.

The land is being marketed by GFW who have described the site as potential ground for a "larger-scale development scheme, subject to planning."

The land remains in the ownership of John Wade Holdings Ltd.

A description on Rightmove reads: "Expressions of interest are invited for the freehold interest in the land edged red on the plan.

"The site amounts to approximately 37 acres (15 hectares) and consideration will be given to a sale or joint venture over the whole or part of the land.

"There is an extant planning consent for commercial development on the southern part of the site.

"The vendor is in the process of submitting an outline planning application for the provision of a mix of leisure and employment uses including B1, B2 and B8 across the whole site."

The site is completely separate to the Aschourt landfill site.

The property is situated to the south of Aycliffe Village, to the east of Aycliffe Business Park and directly north of the proposed Forest Park major commercial development.
