Fantastic drone shots have provided the latest look at popular chain Miller and Carter’s “stylish” new North East restaurant.

Steak fans don’t have long to wait as works continue to get underway on the Grey Towers estate in Nunthorpe for the new eatery.

The upmarket chain - which has locations in Newcastle, Sunderland, Tynemouth, and York - will be launching on the new build estate, located near the Pool roundabout, off the A172.

Miller and Carter is of course best known for its cuts of steak, having been awarded the ‘masters of steak’ from the prestigious Craft Guild of Chefs.

It’s also known for serving up prime burgers and signature sides.

Latest pictures taken from the estate by photographer Pete Spaldin at PremiumP UAV show off the huge progress made at the site, with builders seen working on the venue’s roof.

An opening date has not yet been revealed for the future restaurant.

The brand falls under the umbrella of national operator Mitchells and Butlers, which has long been hoping to open a new location on Teesside.

The firm was granted permission to build a pub on the estate back in 2014 following an application to Middlesbrough Council.

The venue would have initially been operated under the firm’s Vintage Inns pub name, according to planning documents and design concept art.

Then in 2017, the chain lodged a revised application for a Miller and Carter Steakhouse, with the aim to “provide a modern, high quality pub/restaurant for the local community.”

Documents noted how a 2014 public consultation saw an overwhelmingly positive response from both local residents and stakeholders for the development - and this application was again approved with conditions.

Several years later, further applications were lodged but it was years before a visible update at the site following the covid pandemic.

Nunthorpe councillor Mieka Smiles - who has posted several updates on the development over the past few years - said the company was still “actively working on the project” back in 2022 after the Covid pandemic caused some setbacks to projects across the UK.

Then in 2023 a new planning application for lighting and landscaping works was submitted - and just weeks later, new signs were erected at the site saying “exceptional is coming.”

Since then, construction works have been getting underway, with pictures regularly being posted on social media as the shell of the building is erected.

The new pictures come just weeks after the chain re-opened the doors to its Newcastle restaurant following an extensive overhaul.

Bosses have revamped the site, which is located on Mosley Street in Newcastle seats 164 diners, in an effort to create a "modern new look".
