A NORTH-EAST daredevil granny has raised more than £500 for charity from the comfort of her bed.

Nancy Spencer, who made national headlines last year when she undertook a wing walk in aid of Darlington’s St Teresa’s Hospice, has continued her decades of fundraising for the charity by organising a charity bed push.

A team of volunteers pushed Nancy in a hospital bed around the Darlington town centre, collecting donations to support the local end-of-life charity.

Nancy said: “We used to do the bed push every year, but it’s been a few years since we last did it, so we thought it was about time to bring it back!”

Helpers included people whose lives had been touched by the work of the hospice, members of Darlington Round Table, and hospice chair of trustees, Carol Charlton.

She said: “Nancy puts so much energy into the work she does for St Teresa’s, which includes volunteering as a receptionist and raising much-needed funds to support the running of the hospice.

“Nancy constantly demonstrates absolute devotion to St Teresa’s. She is, quite simply, one of the most marvellous people you could hope to meet.”

Nancy added: “I’d like to thank everyone who gave so generously, and to everyone who helped make the bed push happen.

“As well as our brilliant collectors and bed pushers, we had help from the teams at the hospice, the events team and Dolphin Centre team at Darlington Borough Council, Darlington Round Table, the staff at Nationwide Building Society, Costa Coffee, and the talented balloon artists at 1st Stop Party Shop.

“These kinds of community events wouldn’t happen without your help – thank you.”
