A busy North East road will close for three weeks for works.

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council (RCBC) have confirmed work to resurface the roads at Normanby Top in Middlesbrough will begin on Friday (June 14).

Phase two of the work on Flatts Lane, from Hollywalk Avenue to the high street, will begin on this date – while the first phase of work on Bankfields Road to Hollywalk Avenue will begin on Sunday (June 16).

The first phase of the carriageway reconstruction will take place on June 17 and June 18.

The second phase of these works will be split into two, taking place from June 19 to June 21, before the road reopens for the weekend, and the final works take place between June 24 and June 26.

Lining and road marking work will take place one June 26 and June 27.

Banksfield Road will then be resurfaced, with this starting on June 27 and ending on July 3.

“The alert from Middlesbrough Council’s Road Safety team comes with a reminder that stopping on zig-zag lines outside a school carries a fine of up to £100.

A spokesperson at the Council, said: “Our highways teams will be resurfacing the roads at Normanby Top now that the essential works are near completion.

“To minimise disruption and to maintain access to local businesses on Hollywalk Avenue, Flatts lane is planned to be undertaken in two phases. Each phase will be done under a full road closure between the hours of 8am and 4.30pm, reopening at nighttime. Road diversions will continue to be in place.

“We’d like to thank local residents for their patience during this time and we are pleased to say that if weather is on our side, works should be finished by early July.”

Plane off existing surface course

Holywalk Avenue to High Street (Phase 2) – Friday 14 June 2024

Bankfields Road to Holywalk Avenue (Phase 1) – Sunday 16 June 2024

Reconstruct Carriageway

Phase 1 – Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 June 2024

Phase 2 – Wednesday 19 to Friday 21 June 2024, reopened for the weekend and then works commence again on Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 June 2024.

Lining and Road Markings

Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 June 2024.

Resurfacing works then commence on Bankfields Road on Friday 27 June 2024 and should be completed on Wednesday 3 July 2024.
