The North East is set for a cloudy day of cool temperatures - with some scattered showers across the region.

The Met Office predicts a fairly cloudy start to Wednesday with some patchy rain, which will become “more isolated and confined to the western hills” later on.

Forecasters say temperatures will be “rather cool for the time of year”, peaking at 14°C with a minimum temperature of 6°C. In Darlington, it may feel as cold as 8°C at points.

The weather is expected to be cloudy this evening with showers slowly dying out - and there is hope for some clear spells developing from the west.

North East residents can expect shallow fog patches later on, with all parts of the region becoming dry but cool.
