A 15-year-old boy has tragically died following a crash in Newcastle, while a second teenager remains in hospital under arrest.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "In the early hours of this morning (Monday), we attended a one-vehicle collision that occurred on Stamfordham Road in West Denton.

"Emergency services attended the scene and, sadly, a 15-year-old boy was found to have sustained fatal injuries.

"A second boy, aged 16, is currently in hospital receiving treatment for injuries not believed to be life-threatening – and is currently under arrest."

An investigation has been launched into the full circumstances and as a result, a further two people have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They remain in police custody at this time.

Inspector Dean Hood, of Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident where a young person has sadly lost their life.

“Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this extremely difficult time, and they are currently being supported by our specially trained officers.
