Fun Shack has unveiled first-look images of how its new £2.5m state-of-the-art soft play centre could look in Middlesbrough. 

The North East-based leisure operator is set to launch its new complex in the former Wilko unit at Captain Cook Square, with works already underway on transforming the top floor into a Fun Shack play centre. 

From rope bridges and a volcano slide to interactive football courts and a cannonball arena, new images have given a first look into the exciting leisure facility, earmarked to open this summer.

Also planned for the play area is a toddler area for younger children with separate play frames, a role-play village, and a sensory area. 

The new concept art for the complex, which will create 80 jobs, shows off the bright and bold colour scheme and major features such as the striking red and yellow volcano and the pirate island under 5’s area.

Meanwhile, the ground floor will become home to giant indoor inflatable theme park Inflatespace, which is set to feature slides, assault courses, wipeout challenges and bungee ropes.

Once open, the centre will join several other venues as the redevelopment of Captain Cook Square continues in Middlesbrough.

Last year saw the opening of go-karting and entertainment venue Level X - and most recently American burger chain Wendy’s launched in the former Thomas the Baker. 

The square will also soon welcome new restaurant Bazaar, spearheaded by Tarek Thoma, the man behind The Oven Restaurant on Linthorpe Road. The new venue looks set to open this summer. 

Gaming venue The Wired Lobby, which opened late last year, remains closed.

The Fun Shack Group opened its first soft play area in Seaham in 2004 and later went on to launch three more flagship sites in Stockton, Newcastle, and Gateshead.

The company also runs the Jump 360 trampoline parks and Clip N Climb centres. 

Director Craig Freeman previously said he was excited to bring Fun Shack and InflateSpace to the town centre.

He said: “We know that families are going to be hooked as soon as they see what we have in store with our new centres at Captain Cook Square - especially with some of the brand-new activities we have planned.”
