A former Yarm fish and chip shop looks set to be taken over by a new pizza takeaway.

Signs have gone up for new business ‘Yarm Pizza’ on the former Barnacle's chippy, which has been closed for several months.

The unit - which is located between EFES Turkish Barber and popular continental cafe Nossa - is currently in the midst of a transformation, with new pictures showing how the unit has had a fresh lick of grey paint.

News regarding the new business remains under wraps, with specifics on the food and drink on offer and an opening date currently unknown.

Meanwhile, the closure of Barnacle's has left the town without a fish and chip shop - something the nearby Tomahawk Steakhouse just this week teased it could bring to the town in the future.

In a post on a Yarm community Facebook group, owners of the popular steakhouse chain asked residents whether “the demand is still there for a good quality fish and chip shop."

The post was met with widespread positive feedback, with many praising the idea. One person wrote: “My granddaughter is gutted that she cannot sit on Yarm’s riverside with fish and chips or chips and gravy any more. We all miss it.”

Another added: “Definitely! Please don’t pass this opportunity by. We need good quality fish and chips fried to the original recipe using dripping! Reasonably priced for all to afford.”
