The Northern Echo has now launched its Best Chippy 2024 competition - and your favourite chippy needs your support!
Voting is now open - but while we wait to find out who will be crowned as the best chippy for 2024, we're featuring one of the finalists every day for the next ten days.
Today we visit Thirlmere Chippy, in 3 Thirlmere Road, Darlington, owned by Surjit and Jas Sandhu.
The couple's son Kurdip said: "It's a family business, and we took over the shop in Thirlmere Road in 2013, but my parents have a lot of experience in running fish and chip shops.
"We have some great local customers who come to us each week - we know their orders and it is nice to see people coming back.
"We make sure we maintain our quality by keeping an attention to the details and high standards.
"Everything is prepared and cooked fresh, from the potatoes to each fish."
